Church History:

In 1988, Pastor Manuel O. Maliza and his entire family moved to Tandag City. Without any organizational support, he and his family started a church at the house where they lived at. Pastor Maliza and his son, Pastor Dan Maliza, began to preach at public places and went from house to house knocking on doors and delivering evangelism. After 2 years, Pastor Dan left the city to pursue a teaching career in another city, while Pastor Manuel continued to do evangelism and Sunday services at their house. Planting a church in a heavily Catholic city was a big challenge often leading to persecutions of the family by the locals. In this city, Christianity is regarded as the religion of the “poor”.
But after much prayer, fasting and evangelism, many people were brought back to the Kingdom of God and began to attend the church. Later, Pastor Manuel’s second son, Nemrod, having completed his college degree, returned to help his father; in the meantime, he was also attending a Bible school in the city.

The church had grown so much that the family moved into a bigger house, where believers could meet for worship and Bible study. The church was able to buy a little piece of land and build a two-story house, which ground floor was used as a church and the second floor as their home for nearly 10 years.

The church was flooded with young high school and college students as they got born-again and made into disciples of the Word. It seemed that the church was called mainly to reach out and train young Christian leaders. Young members eventually finished school and moved to different cities as well as countries pursuing careers and becoming missionaries. Although the church might look it has not grown in number, it is misleading; the members are merely spread out in many places.

5 years ago, Pastor Dan Maliza felt that God called him back to pastor the church. The building where they used to gather for worship services came to be too small and too inconvenient for the numerous new converts. They decided to rent a more spacious studio room in the downtown area of the city. Presently, they continue to hold their services there.

Pastor Dan, Pastor Manuel and the leadership of the church are envisioning thousands of people being brought to the Lord in the next 5 years, as they double their efforts in evangelism and discipleship with prayer and fasting.

Missionary Clif and Grace Pakasi

Country:
Thailand

Email Address: clif_grace@yahoo.com

Family Information:

• Mary Queen Bless- daughter
• Baby on the way

Areas/Focus of ministry:

• Church Planting
• Social Service

Bio

Mary Grace had to leave for Thailand for a teaching job at Hatyai University in 2005. It was the only way that she could earn a living. Unwed mothers were not allowed to teach at any schools in the Philippines during those years.
Early on her adult life, she disobeyed the Lord and as a consequence she got pregnant. After her repentance before God, her family and the church, the Lord started to restore her spiritual life. She gave birth to a beautiful girl. For her to be able to support her baby’s needs she needed to work.

Little did she know that her decision to live in Thailand was already planned by the Lord. She found herself in a mission field. She looked at her job as an God-ordained opportunity to share the Gospel with the Thai people. While employed as a lecturer at the university, she was also helping an indigenous church in the city of Hatyai. She was leading the dance and arts ministry of the said church. She was also involved in Bible study/Cell-group leading.

In July 2008, her friend and mentor introduced her to Clif. They fell in love with each other and after much prayer, they got married in August.

Clif, a young Indonesian pastor, went to Thailand as a missionary in March 2008. Back in Indonesia, when he got born-again, he became one of the persecuted Christians in the country. He attended a Bible school in Surabya. After finishing school, he served as a youth pastor at a church in the same city. A few years later, he felt God’s call in his life to go to Thailand to plant a church. His church didn’t send him because it didn’t have the resources to support a missionary overseas. However, his family believed in his calling, so they sent him.

When he arrived in Thailand, he felt the need for a wife who could also help him in ministry. He then started to pray for a wife with specific personality and gifting. One of the missionary ladies he was working with in the organization that received him into the country happened to be Grace’s very good friend. This lady told him about Grace a few months before they met in person. He prayed for her and felt that God wanted him to marry her. When they finally met in person, it didn’t take a long time for them to decide to get married. They both saw how God answered their specific prayers for a spouse.

Recently, they moved to a bigger house where they also started a church. Clif and Grace are thankful that after two months, their church has a congregation of three members- the two of them and one new member. They both now engaged themselves in evangelism and prayer and fasting for the new church.

Bio

I am Nemrod A. Maliza, a public grade school teacher and at the same time an associate pastor of the church that my family and I are members of.

I am the second child of Rev. Manuel and Merie Maliza. My parents were my main mentors in the ministry. However, I also graduated from a Bible school where I took my formal training in pastoral ministry. I have worked with my parents in ministry, specifically in church planting, for many years before I got married.

My wife, Catherine, also grew up in a strong Christian home. Growing up, she was involved in a few different ministries in the church. She has special gifts in music and teaching children.

I have seen how God has called me mainly in the ministry of the Word. I have a passion in studying and teaching the Bible. I have also seen how the Lord has given a gift in music. I play several music instruments, like, keyboard, guitars and drums. My wife and I are actively involved in the music ministry at our church.

My wife has a passion for children and this is being fulfilled in our children feeding ministry where she leads them into the loving presence of God by presenting Christ through the Bible stories.

Recently, our family is amazed at how God used our oldest child Neca. She is in third grade and her teacher assigned her to tell stories every Friday in their class. So she brought her Bible story book in their classroom for the said assignment.

Bio

My name is Dan Maliza. I was born on March 27, 1968. I am married to Ruth Tabile Maliza, since October 28, 1992. We have been blessed with 3 beautiful daughters.

In 1988, after completing my bachelor’s degree in Education, I worked with my father, Pastor Manuel Maliza, to plant a church in Tandag city. In the same city, I also went to the Evangelical Bible College to get a formal education in pastoral ministry. In 1991, when the church was established, I decided to pursue a career as a grade school teacher at the Christian school that my uncle started in Davao city. My uncle happened to be the president and pastor of the Temple of God Ministries International. While a teacher in his school, I was mentored in pastoral and church planting ministries to solidify the competencies that I grew up developing under my father’s apprenticeship.

In 1992, I got married to Ruth, the daughter of my parents’ classmate from the Bible College they attended. In the same year, my wife and I started a church in a nearby village under the leadership of my uncle, Rev. Joshua Maliza. Although employed as a full-time grade school teacher, I worked hard with my wife to establish that church. After 3 years of dedicated work, we responded to a call to pastor a bigger and a more established church in another city. We transferred the responsibility for the young church to another worker from my uncle’s ministry. In 1995, we started pastoring a church in New Corella, Davao del Norte. My wife, Ruth, also got a job as a public grade school teacher in the same city. I eventually became the chairman of the pastors’ association and a lecturer for the Moral Recovery Program and Family Values at the city hall and other governmental offices.

However, not long after, we felt that God was calling as elsewhere. In 2004, after 4 years of service in New Corella, we returned to Tandag city, Surigao del Sur, to help pastor the church that my father and I started in 1988. Due to health reasons, that year my father asked me to take over the pastoral leadership of the church, and I humbly accepted the responsibility. However, he never stopped preaching at church and holding Bible studies even in ill health. He has also continued to be my greatest mentor and ministry partner.

The Lord has faithfully grown the church not just in number, but also in the spirituality of every member. We have applied the principle of G-12 (Group of 12) discipleship in our church furthering my passion for evangelism and discipleship.

In Tandag city, the Lord has also blessed me with a ministry involving my fellow pastors. I served as the chairman of the association for 4 years until last year. Presently, I’m serving as the treasurer.

Bio

In 1949, Merie and I got married. I was a rice farmer then and my wife stayed home. Not long after our marriage, we were blessed with four children- two boys and two girls. However, each of them passed away within the period of 7 years; all were ill with high fever and diarrhea. When the youngest of them passed away, both my wife and I went into depression and lost all hope in life. We hopelessly thought there was nothing to get out of life. We even contemplated that only our own death can end our misery.

Nevertheless, one morning, as we got up from bed still mourning, depressed and overwhelmed with hopelessness, we turned on the radio tuning it onto the only station in town and heard a preacher minister about Jesus Christ and hope that one can find in Him. God spoke to and touched our hearts through the radio preacher helping us realize that there is hope in Him. There was a drastic and sudden change in our emotions! We gave our lives to Him and decided to leave everything behind to attend the Bible College that the preacher on the radio mentioned before he signed off.

The college was 8-hour-bus-ride away from where we lived. We sold off everything that we owned and left immediately. We soon found ourselves at the Evangelical Bible College in Davao City. Everything was different: we were not only genuinely alive, but also of excited to learn more about Him and festive of the joyful new life brought forth by sincere repentance to and acknowledgement of God’s supremacy. We lived our lives no longer for ourselves, but for God and for the proclamation of his Kingdom.

In our second year in college, revival came to the Philippines, and our conservative Evangelical Bible College became one of the places where God “poured out His Spirit upon all flesh” in Davao City. There was an overflow of the Holy Spirit that brought a complete turnaround to the city. Christians were filled with the Holy Spirit, prophesied and spoke in tongues. My wife and I were among those filled with the Holy Spirit and got fired up for the Lord. Our excitement to serve Him was as high as it has never been before, and we felt charged up for the immense work ahead.

During the last year in school, God started to answer our prayer to give us more children. Our 5th child, Dan (we now refer to him as the oldest child), was born. In 1968 before Dan turned one, we were assigned to evangelize to and plant churches among one of the largest unreached tribes in the southern part of the Philippines - the Mandaya Tribe. At that time, it was believed that the tribe practiced cannibalism, animism and witchcraft. Their settlements were mostly in the eastern part of Davao comprising small villages in the jungles on top of mountains.

Powered up by the Holy Spirit, we were excited to go and evangelize the tribe immediately after our graduation. We took the bus from Davao City to Manay, Davao Oriental and walked for a day from that town to reach the nearest village. We settled in the larger village and started to live just like the tribesmen. As soon as we began to evangelize to the people in our and neighboring villages, we immediately faced persecution. At one time, someone even poisoned the well of drinking water in an attempt to kill my family. The leaders of the village were also convinced that our family was a curse to the tribe; they gathered together and decided to burn our house and church down. However, in both situations, God delivered us from death by performing great miracles. When those people came with torches with an intention to burn our house and church, they thought that the buildings were already heavy on fire before they could set them afire themselves. When the morning came, they were shocked to see that our house and church were intact; no fire had burned them down. This was just one of the many miracles God performed before the eyes of the villagers. As a result, they started to believe what we preached, and eventually the entire village was converted to follow Jesus. During the 6-year period of our ministry with the Mandaya Tribe, we were able to plant churches in 20 villages. The work was very challenging considering the fact that we lived in the jungles just like the tribesmen. We literally walked through the valley of the shadow of death. But we feared no evil because we felt the presence of our great God over us converting the souls of the tribal people to Himself.

God gave us three more children, while we lived with the Mandaya tribe. We now had 4 children! And the fact that they have the same personalities as our first 4 children who all passed away before we became Christians is indeed astounding. We believe that God gave our 4 children back to us.

After six years with the Mandaya tribe, God called us to reach another major tribe in Davao - the Mansaka tribe. We moved to the northern part of Davao, where we lived with the tribe and pastored a new church in Maragusan Valley. During this time, God also called me and a few of my classmates from the Bible College to start a new organization. We founded the Temple of God Church, Inc., and I became the vice chairman of the new organization. We pastored the church in Maragusan and planted churches in the towns around Davao del Norte. We eventually started a Bible School in our church due to the demand for pastors in the churches that I planted around the area. After 15 years of serving in that ministry, I had to take over the leadership of the Temple of God Church due to the death of the chairman of the organization. I felt that I was not called to serve in administration and that I was competently equipped for that. On top of that, I sensed and believed that God was calling us to plant a church in Tandag City, place where I grew up, got married, became broken when our first 4 children died and responded to God’s call to follow and serve Him. I didn’t hesitate to leave the leadership of the organization to my younger brother who, I felt, was more equipped and called to lead the organization. I left Maragusan Valley with my whole family entrusting our ministry to a younger pastor I had discipled for many years.
I and my family left and started a church in Tandag City, home to nearly 80,000 people. The majority of the population is of ethnicity Tandaganon. Planting a church in a heavily Catholic population was quite a challenge for us. We came to Tandag with no financial support from any organization. We survived financially merely by God’s faithful provision and my wife’s diligent efforts to sell fruit. As a matter of fact, Tandag City was one of the more economically depressed areas in the Philippines, where poverty tried to oppress us. But God once again proved his faithfulness to providing all our necessities. Poverty could not stop us from spreading the Gospel and ushering souls to the Kingdom of God. Having all graduated from college, our children became my co-workers at the church that we planted. I had a vision to plant churches around the region that Tandag is a part of, but financial difficulties restrained my travels. For many years, I focused on our church in Tandag, where we’ve lived almost 20 years. I am grateful that God has continually performed miracles in the ministry that He has entrusted to us. Our church here, in partnership with other churches, has sent my two daughters to be missionaries to the unreached people of Mongolia and Thailand. I am thankful to God for using our humble church to bless nations.

Five years ago, I gave up my pastoral ministry to my son, Pastor Dan Maliza, due to aging and physical ailment. However, I didn’t stop preaching because I believe that one can never retire from preaching the Word of God. Not only did I continue preaching at church once a month, but also persistently carried on the evangelistic activities such as public preaching and radio broadcasting. However, due to insufficient funds, I stopped preaching on the radio.
Very recently, God completely healed me from Tuberculosis that had been draining my strength for several years. Although extreme weakness and loss of weight assured me that my death was near, God miraculously healed me and restored my health. Now I can testify that the strength of my youth was given back to me in double portion. I can run and climb mountains again!

My vision is to continue preaching the Word of God at our church, public places and on the radio.
